Hopefully this leads to a nice influx of second hand radios for HAM use!

One shudders to think how much analog commercial gear will end on Uhfcb, as if it wasnt already chaotic.

The most basic rule of business is: Sell the customer what they want; Motorola seems to think they can TELL the customer what they want.

Apart from that I think they've just gotten too greedy over the years, not only with their prices (I'm sure most here would've been taken aback at some stage when hearing they charge $350 for a programming cable that should only cost a few dollars to make), but also with their (common) practice of deviating from the standards in an attempt to lock-out other manufacturers from using their systems.

As my grandma used to say "Their chickens are coming home to roost"...

Andrew, agree 100%.

They would be long gone if it wasn't for their great products, which it would be hard to argue are at the absolute pinicle of public safety comms - and have been for many years.

The sad reality is - at some point they took their eye off technology ball and mastering it to product more great products and starting playing other games in the US and elsewhere, mean while there competition have caught up and in some cases now produce a better product and on average a lot cheaper.

Odds are once motorola burn through the cash of the symbol to zebra sale they will become a take over target them self.
