i wish ebay would police these idiots more than they do as i am sure that most of the xts3k radios sold on there are obtained by dubious methods

it is possible at the moment for those who have the technical knowledge to program up an rx mcs2000, but keep in mind it will only monitor whatever is on the local grn repeater it can get reception on.
eg if your in newcastle and want to listen to wollongong nswfb it won't work unless there is a radio that is affiliated to the grn turned onto that channel.

Basically cheaper to buy a scanner as an mcs2000 programmed as rx is an expensive scanner.

For a radio to affiliate onto the grn it requires a valid radio ID which if it were pirated i'm sure the guys in the NOCC would gladly knock the RID off the system however it is done.

Ahh thanks..

I thought it wouldnt listen at all unless it had a correct radio ID installed.
I guess I was wrong!

Would they have programed all of the Control channels in so whoever buys it will hear something...?

And it will scan only 16 talkgroups at a time.

That goes for all Motorolas that people buy to use for monitoring. They are a total waste of money in my opinion. But people can do what they want with there money. If they want to waste it on over priced 'scanners' when something much cheaper will do the job, and do it better, then so be it.

Though when you compare the audio quality of a Motorola to a scanner you see why the money is worth it.

well not necessarily, from what i've heard and seen the radioshack pro96 scanner from the us has the same level of audio clarity on p25 when compared to an xts if not better than an xts.

also when you compare the hassles you have to go through when re-programming a motorola radio unless you have fpp enabled its better to buy a scanner.
