Post by Chrisco » Thu Jun 27, 2013 5:32 pm

Taken on Longueville Rd at Lane Cove I believe the antenna is use for the parking control ie; page the brown bomber when a car is overstayed

taken on Epping road not sure it's use, there is a 24hr bus lane in both directions
can anyone confirm the yagi or the one on the right

You sometimes see small yagis like that on the electronic freeway signs (BMS as you hear they say on the RTA radio). I always thought the signs are updated by a landline but maybe some in remote locations via radio?
I have seen larger yagis on telegraphs poles which look like they point back to substations.Maybe they monitor if the street lights go out & the solar panel is the backup power so the radio can send the signal down the yagi to signal a power failure.
Someone in the Energy companies or RTA could answer this one.

Those portable VMS you see parked on the side of the road are updated by mobile phone, there was an RTA staffer on one of the talkgroups logging into some software on his laptop to update them on the side of the road. Cant remember what the software was called.
