Actually its already here, and been here a number of years now. I applied for DAB trials about 4 years ago now when the ACMA decided to implement this.
You can also buy the radios already, though they are not wide spread. Only a few stations are broadcasting DAB at the moment, but as you have discovered, it will become a standard soon like digital TV will.

I was a early user who was ripped when they stopped the DAB broadcast's just after I bought one. It was the Sangean radio that was over $400 and to say I was Piz' Off would be and under statement, I am still fuming about the whole thing. I also applied to the ACMA to become a tester but did not hear anything from them at all. I will not be going out and buying a DAB+ radio in a hurry. The list of station that you will be able to rx is on the site and it is the standard rx MW - VHF FM band station that I can hear now. I have not heard or read any good reports from any Dig radio roll outs from anywhere around the world it has all been bad news and I am sure that this will continue in Australia. 73z E=MC2

It's about 170days to the turn on none of the retail shops (clive peters etc) have any in stock the last time I looked. I wanted to ask someone in the store but of cause when you some help you can't find anyone. I don't think they would know what i was talking about. I want to get a DAB+ radio If I spend $900 on the uniden scanners. Will just have to wait and see if the switch-on and not put it back again.

Personally I think its one of those technologies, that though great, and has good intensions, it won't take off in the general population. Now enough 'wow' factor if you ask me to make people want to go out, ditch their current tuners and get a DAB radio.

So Don't hold your breath in many DAB radios coming out in the near future.

Okay it is the 13th June DAB+ broadcast are still not happening in Sydney It has been put back quite a few times now they reckon 15th will be the switch on. http://www.digitalradioplus.com.au says The Sydney digital radio trials which have been on air since December 2003 will end this week to make way for the establishment of permanent DAB+ digital radio transmissions.
The new services will commence in low power and may be subject to interuption as technical issues are resolved. The new services will increase gradually to prevent any impact to other broadcasters.

We appreciate your patience and interest in DAB+ digital radio – please watch this website for updates.
