I heard someone transmitting in P25 on Channel 40 last night, anyone else noticed anything lately? I know theres not alot of P25 radios being sold retail that i know of, but would be damn annoying if more users were using it, for those with analog style radios that is.

One of the more interesting stories is the time three or four years ago when the infamous "JD" of Channel 1 was complaining of P25 intereference on his Hurstville Channel 1 UHF CB.

Turns out that the signal was coming from the NSW Police's Zone 2 Ch 1 - metrowide simulcast encrypted P25 (easily confirmed by listening to both frequencies) which included a Hurstville repeater site. JD did not have a clue where the P25 was coming from and accused his legion of enemies for interfering with his repeater. Basically he was running a bodgey setup and running next to nothing on filtering unwanted signals.

Having said that, sounds like somebody is chancing their arm here on channel 40 because uhf CB is for the most part unpoliced by the ACMA except for interference and repeater owner complaints. At the time of the Channel 1 incident the discussion suggested that P25 (like packet data) is not allowed under the class and apparatus licence.

There are tons of XTS3000s hitting the market dirt cheap right now, with SA Police getting rid of theirs and all the old SORN kit finally getting retired. Every man and his dog's got one now.

Yep. Only F3E and G3E are permitted modes under the CBRS class license. P25 voice is F1E.

There's some good news here: The imported 100W Motorola Spectras a lot of them are getting around Sydney with won't do narrow FM

wont slow them up though, theyll still use them
