Commercial CB listing

Post by cartman » Tue Aug 26, 2008 2:10 pm

"Murky world of CB" is definitely an understatement.
It is a free-for-all at no cost to anybody except for the radio gear
Apart from the "power" stations, warring operators (violent enough to make onto the TV news), whispers and carrier droppers, there are also business users who are trying to do comms on the cheap.
Rather than spend thousands on radios, for the outlay of 100 dollars or so, many cash-sensitive business have opted for a private tone on the Cb band

Despite the demise of a certain forum I kept that list ... the Commercial CB UHF listing
It is my attempt to capture a snapshot of who is using what frequencies when and where ... anywhere in NSW.
I have included some information Garry L has provided publically elsewhere.
From my observation commercial / govt agency use of CB is a lot more frequent that people realise and probably far more important as a common communication mode for country folk.
Somebody recently just told me that Kempsey SES Rescue make use of the PLO3 repeater at Point Lookout (west of Dorrigo).
That particular repeater gives about 300-350km coverage - you can key it up in Port Macquarie and be heard in Grafton!!
What i would hope folk to be doing is be actively listening for this sort of transmission ... a lot of the commercial Cb transmissions happens right under our noses and it is easy to overlook. So keep a log of your listening, put together a post ... "this is the CB activity i heard in Bowral, in Dubbo etc" and send it in, so I can add to the overall list.
The only restriction however is that you do need a scanner that can show CTCSS or DCS tones to be able to compile a list of local users - to identify which tone belonga to who.

Grant

PS In future updates I will start distinguishing city/country locations - unless otherwise stated location information is for Sydney Metropolitan

Legend:
[136.5] = CTCSS tone 136.5Hz
[d331] = DCS tone 331
[CSQ] = Carrier Squelch

Well done Grant!

My brother works for PF Formations (they have about 20 dog and trailer combinations). They use Channel 25 to chat amongst themselves within the Sydney basin, but it has a subtone... have not worked it out yet.

They are based in Emu Plains, but don't use CB to talk to base. They drive all over Sydney to Maroota where they have a sand quarry and mainly out to Hartley and Cowra for gravel.

Once past the Blue Mountains, they go back to CB40... no tone.

I have included the inbetween frequencies as it is looking likely that the ACMA will double the CB channels to 80 by switching from 25khz spacing to 12.5khz in the near future.

I am pretty sure that the channel 1 (476.425Mhz) 74.4 CTCSS tone that I have marked down for Security is part of a hotel complex somewhere around Central Station. If you listen during the quiet periods on Channel 1 (which is usually in the wee hours) there is a bit of hotel like discussion between their reception / concierge and other staff. The lasttime I heard them ( a couple of weeks ago) is when I pinned down the tone to 74.4 CTCSS

While driving to and from Port Macquarie a couple of weeks ago I noted again the extensive use of CB radio for the road construction works taking place.

As the constructions areas are sign-posted 80km/hr i made an effort to jot down the channel numbers as I drove along slowly. I missed some of the gates as they were facing northwards and I was travelling south. Obviously driving safely is a priority. Recording by tape recorder will be a better way of approaching it

Was a patient in a small, country hospital a few months back.
Night nurses had little Uniden low wattage units to call reception for help.. They didn't have a clue as to what they were. But, I am sure, they were using a CB channel.
