They're not on special anymore Kev. I tried to buy another one today at the $348 price and the Hurstville store computer has them back to $498 - even though they are not supported anymore and don't appear in the latest catalogue.

Interestingly/laughably, they had both the 396 and 996 at a "clearance" price of $997 each.

Somebody should tell them you can buy a brand new BCD996XT off fleabay for AU$559 + shipping... it's just not the same old dick any more...

Today in dick smith there was a DTS 96 in the dislay cupboard and on the box had a sticker not new.i asked the guy if i could have a look at it . when i opened the box it only has the scanner and aerial inside .when i removved the battery cover the battry holder has been taken out it had $174.00 advertised.i said to him this scanner is not working ans has had the battery holder taken out and been returned what is the best price he can do.he told me his manager said $50.00 i think i can get it cheaper then that . can i buy a battery holder for this or is a forum member able to install one for me.PS im thinking of offering him $ 15.00 or $20.00 for it .

Lee Andrews has both the yellow and black battery holders for these radios.

Anyone know if theres any freeware avail for the DTS96? Also, is the DTS96 capable of monitoring P25 trunking? Can't seem to get it to follow the correct voice channel...
