Post by JAFO » Sun Jun 07, 2009 11:28 pm

For all of those who own a DickSmith DTS-96 Digital Scanner, some good news :D

BuTel have released a version of their ARC-96 software for RS PRO-96 , PRO-2096, that it now also is compatible with the DickSmith DTS-96

Yes this is true, but there are still issues with the virtual scanner folders in the DTS-96. Gommert of Butel is waiting for a DTS-96 to come from Sydney to be able to fix a few minor bugs.

I just tried Arc96 on the Pro2096 and can now program 66-88 mhz range in 12.5khz steps (unlike starrsoft win96 which would round to 10khz steps). VHF Police, VRA, state forests, national parks, ... can now be programed correctly.

I've just used ARC96 to program a DTS96 and can confirm you can now program all 3 frequency ranges of the NSW GRN into the scanner. There is still a V-Folder issue as soupbones said, but the owner of the scanner I programmed only uses 2 banks.

Dick Smith are still selling the DTS96 for around $490, so it is a bargain now that it will track the GRN 100%.

Mike
PS: Watch now as Dick Smith's up the price on the DTS96 as demand increases.

Actually DSE are looking to dump this stock due to lack of sales. NOw its the end of the financial year you can bet they will be going cheap.
I will be keeping my eye out in the catalogues for when they do a price drop.

Which is now doubt due to the fact that most scanner enthusiests whose only interest have been the police are now not buying new scanners because Police in the Metro areas have now gone Digital Encrypted.

No I don't think so at all.

I think scanner sales dropped big time when Police went Digital. For the average Joe scanner listener $600+ is a lot of money just to listen to police, so I think scanner sales would have dropped dramatically after the Police went Digital, and then a little more but not near as much when Police went Encrypted. Most true scanner enthusiasts who are willing to pay $600+ for a good Digital Scanner, as it's not just the police we will listen too.

As far as bad sales of the DSE DTS-96 goes, I really believe it was bad product research and implementation on DSE behalf for the DTS-96 not selling well, especially when you consider how many RadioShack Pro-96 Digital Scanners ended up in Australia, and really that’s all the DTS is, a Pro-96 re-branded and banded for the Australian use.

No I think if DSE had done their research right, and provided a good working clonning Software such Win96 or PuTel’s Software with the DTS-96, sales would have been much greater then what they have been, considering most say the Pro96 is a better scanner then the Uniden’s for Digital Audio.

Hi
I sent an email to Butel support as the ARC96 software was rounding the VHF Hi band to 5khz and not 12.5khz steps.
I recieved a reply from Butel asking for bandplan and step details for the DTS96.

I purchased my DTS96 on ebay and did not recieve a manual, and just wondering if anyone with a manual can confirm if the below list is correct:
26.965 to 27.405 MHz - 5 khz step
28 to 29.700 MHz - 5 khz step
50 to 54 MHz - 5 khz step
68 to 88 MHz - 12.5 khz step
108 to 136.9875 MHz - 12.5 khz step
137 to 174 MHz - 12.5 khz step
406 to 512 MHz - 6.25 khz step
806 to 960 MHz - 12.5 khz step
1240 to 1300 MHz - 6.25 khz step

I also queried if the "extended frequency range" option could be added to the DTS96, and was informed the DTS96 does not support this function like the Pro96/2096.

cheers Allsion
