When I did this, my DTS96 keeps showing "Incorrect Model" even though I've ticked DTS96 model under Configurations and Send window. Weird...

I had issues at first with the USB connection, which was down to driver issue, i had a spare rackmount server that had serial port, and the Serial->PC/IF worked 100%. Just recently i attmepted the USB->Serial+Serial->PC/IF on my netbook, running Win7Enterprise. Win7 auto downloaded some drivers for it, and now that works fine. If you want i can see if i get the driver details that the netbook as and paste them here and you can attempt to get it running with those. I think i had a similar problem (reading above) with ghost uploads, but when i get a spare 5 mins, ill hook mine up and have a look.

further to post...
re-uploading profile into scanner using netbook and above cable setup, usually i use the rackmount server and serial port only, not the usb to serial converter as well as the cable. When selecting DTS96, scanner will give error of Incorrect Model, not sure if it does this when serial is plugged in on other machine, but at the moment, its extremely slow in uploading data to scanner so ill leave it for now and let you know in the morning.
Can you let me know what drivers you're using for your USB->Serial?

I'm considering whether I should invest in a RadioShack USB cable from ScannerMaster or a cheapo serial cable from eBay. Anyone who has used both USB and serial, are there any speed differences?

I use the GRE 30-3290 that comes with they PSR500's. never had a problem with it on all my GRE based scanners (Pro 96, Pro97 GRE PSR500 and a Mates GRE PSR600). i did however spot in my mates PSR600 box the same one as what Scannermaster sells. it might be all thats available now?
just for interest i understand that the 3.5mm plug is both available in mono and stereo. the plug on the end of both my cables are stereo, i understand also the mono plug has compatibility issues with certain scanners?? ie wont load properly.
GRE sells the cable i have, its available here http://www.greamerica.com/scanner_accessories.html

another possibility could be the Driver software could be playing up. you can get new downloads of it here

If Uniden Australia is going ahead with their ill-fated plan to re-introduce the superseded UBC396T, it is probably too much to expect them to have fixed the anomalies in the current Band Plan.

Some of the anomalies.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VHF Aeronautical Band - 108.0000 to 136.9875 (12.5 kHz Step)
The VHF Aeronautical Band in Australia currently uses 25 kHz channel spacing, and the default Step of 12.5 kHz means slower scanning of the Band, so the American default of 25 kHz would be just as appropriate for Australia.
Anyway, in the event that Australia were to go to narrower channel spacing, it would most likely be to the European 8.33 kHz spacing, so the current default of 12.5 kHz would be even more inappropriate.
~~~~~~
137.0000 to 147.9950 MHz (5 kHz)

In the American Band Plan, this segment is in two parts - 137.0000 to 143.9875 (12.5 kHz Step), and 144.0000 to 147.9950 (5 kHz Step) - and unfortunately, the inappropriate default Step of 5 kHz has carried across from the American Band Plan. (In America, 15 kHz and 20 kHz channel spacing (depending on part of country) is used in the 144.0000 to 147.9950 MHz segment of the Band, so the 5 kHz Step is appropriate there).

In Australia, the current channel spacing in the 144.0000 to 147.9950 MHz segment, is 25 kHz, with the likelihood of going to 12.5 kHz in the very near future, so a default Step of 12.5 kHz would be more appropriate.

~~~~~~
UHF (Military) Aeronautical Band - 225.0000 to 399.9750 (25 kHz Step)
In the American Band Plan, this segment is in two parts - 225.0000 to 379.9750 (25 kHz Step), and 380.0000 to 399.9875 (12.5 kHz Step).
With the increased use of FM (and other Modes) in the 380.0000 to 399.9875 segment, it would be more appropriate to have the same Band split, and Default Steps, here as well.
~~~~~~

With the push for narrower bandwidth, my suggested Default Steps of 12.5 kHz, above, should probably be of 6.25 kHz to provide some "Future Proofing" of the scanner.

I realise that the Step can be changed by the User, but it would certainly reduce Forum Posts, and be less stressful for a New User, if the appropriate Step was the Default setting.

My GRE PSR500 is already at the 8.33khz step. so there may already be changes there. a check of a mates 996xt im programming reveals the same.

n the American Band Plan, this segment is in two parts - 137.0000 to 143.9875 (12.5 kHz Step), and 144.0000 to 147.9950 (5 kHz Step) - and unfortunately, the inappropriate default Step of 5 kHz has carried across from the American Band Plan. Both bands there are already on 12.5khz steps on a 500. same on the first on a 996xt however 5khz steps for 2M ham.

already at 12.5khz on the 500. the 996xt has 25khz on the 225-380 however 12.5khz on 380-400mhz.

Please read my previous post CAREFULLY before replying. I made no mention of XT or GRE scanners.

My post was in response to comments that Uniden Australia plans to re-release the obsolete UBCD396T scanner.

im aware of that. im just pointing out what has happened since.
it is possible that they may update features, bandplans, etc, companies sometimes do these things.
