Re: Icom radio
The simple answer is all Icom gear is good. Going to the field day would give you a good chance to have a look at the radio, play with it and talk to the people selling. Chances are you will get some sort of a deal.
Re: Icom radio
Yeah funds are available I think I might get one

Re: Icom radio
If you can acquire the programming software and lead you most certainly can get it programmed up.
that being said you need to remember you cannot program TX on anything other than UHFCB unless you have permission from the channel owner...
If your not familiar enough with the programming of a radio get all the channels you want written down and take your radio to your radio store and get them to program it for a fee...

Re: Icom radio
HI all, yeah good luck with the software and lead. i know personally Icom dont like selling software to private buyers however a radio dealer will do the job for you. he'll also program your Icom to 5 Watts on UHFCB. it isnt legal to have higher power on that band, even though i know a fair bit do.
youll have to check which band split your radio is. if its the 470-512 split not much point in having digital anyway there is nothing in that band of interest. knowing Icom it would be a seperate board for digital operation. Icom's wont generally go out of band, so even the police channels are most likely out of bounds of it.
on a positive note though you have a good radio, Icom are a great radio. they have a really sensitive receiver and the transmitters are really stable.
cheers
Matt

A third party lead can be purchased on Ebay. They work just as well as the original.centralcoastscanman wrote:yeah heck matt I cannot even buy the icom programming software under my business name thats how paranoid they are...

The software? Type the software name and download into Google, if you cannot find it, then the internet is grossly over-rated. Which it is, but it should do the trick this time.
