As you know Uniden is about to release the UBCD396XT. I know that some are not impressed by this, BUT if you are, they will retail for $499 - confirmed.

One thing I like is the 512 now up to 520mhz.
One thing i dont like is no software, looks like there left it up to 3rd party only.

Not real sure. I don't have a remote to try it out. I would say not. But while on the subject the Butel and Freescan software does work with the Australian version.

As far as I know, the American RH96 works on both the BCD396T, and the BCD396XT, so why wouldn't the Australian RH96 work on both the Australian 396's.

I know the U.S. and Aussie remote heads were not interchangeable, when the XT scanners came out in the States Uniden America released a firmware update for the existing remote head (the only thing you can actually use the front serial port for on the RH-96) so it could be used on the XT, you can only hope that Uniden Australia will do the same?

I checked the specs on the Uniden site and they state that it will work with the remote head. Pretty good price also at 499, better be quick I suppose with the dollar sliding back down.

yeah but you get a real crappy orange light rather than the nice multi colour on the 396XT

The 396t was a bit deaf on UHF.
