396T Popping Audio

Post by pks » Mon Feb 28, 2011 3:42 am

Am I the only one getting popping sound at the beginning of a transmission when the scanner unsquelch? I'm monitoring GRN P25 and conventional P25. Mucked around with digital AGC settings, P25 level, battery saving mode, etc... Tried powering scanner using batteries and external power supply but made no difference.

Yer I kept my 396 for only 5 months then got rid of it. Poor audio ( popping) and poor reception.... But that was the first batches to come to Australia.

So there are different revision of 396T sold in Australia?

Anyone know of any mods to fix the popping audio?

I think, while we had beers by the pool it was decided the RX in those radios was the shittiest we had ever owned. I was disappointed because other then crap reception, it was a great little hand held.
Either way they didn't last long, and were soon replaced by 996T's. which are way better, but not hand held.

I feel sorry now for the poor excited suckers out there who now have our radios!

Hmm... I wonder if this problem can be solved with software (ie. scanner hooked up to PC, internal speaker not used, PC filters audio before playback)

I'll look into this later.

The popping is kinda annoying. Only does it on P25 channels for me.
