No More Uniden Digital Scanners

Post by JAFO » Fri Aug 13, 2010 4:09 pm

Just visited the Uniden Website and noticed that the 396T & 996T are no longer listed on their website as current Scanner – no longer, Gone

Yes you are correct. They are gone, but they still show pictures of them in the animated flash adverts on their site. Makes me wonder if they have done this because the XT models are coming out now??? Strange how they still sell the older analogue models still.

FYI, Uniden will not be supporting any digital scanners in Australia for the forseeable future. Encryption has seen a significant decline in sales and therefore they cannot justify the cost of modifying to Australian conditions, type approving and distribution.

For some unknown reason analogue scanners are selling better than ever, ergo only analogues will be supported in future catalogues.

Wow, I wonder what on earth people are buying analog scanners for... Channel X-ray perhaps? who knows!

I think this could be a bad decision long term for them - once P25 GRN comes, and assuming that most agencies stay in the clear, then the market will open back up again.

Its rather frustrating really, I am not that keen on the idea of buying gear from the US and Dealing with warranty claims, especially when it looks like my replacement 996T may be developing the same lose of signal strength issue as my pervious 996T.
