Some comments suggest NXDN is being added to DMR on the 436/536 scanner range

EDIT from Admin - turns out they are releasing a new SDR style (I/Q based) scanner - the SDS100.

I reckon NXDN would be a good guess there Cartman. Unlikely we will get the benefits of any updates on Australian models, seeing as we are still waiting on DMR...

I can confirm there will be no updates to the Australian 436/536's.

And before someone starts mouthing off about it, they were never promised in the first place. The 436 and 536 were originally produced for the CFA with sales to the public an added extra.

Uniden creates another first with the SDS100 True I/Q Scanner, the first scanner to incorporate Software Defined Radio technology to provide incredible digital performance in even the most challenging RF environments. The SDS100’s digital performance is better than any other scanner in both simulcast and weak-signal environments.

The SDS100 is also the first scanner that allows you to decide what to display, where, and in what color. Custom fields put the information important to you right where you need it.

And, one more first, the SDS100 meets JIS4 (IPX4) standards for water resistance.

Slated for release in 2nd Quarter, 2018, the SDS100 carries an MSRP of $699*.

Of course, the SDS100 also includes all the advanced features you’ve come to expect from a Uniden scanner, including:

These three words just lost me, ** Paid Upgrade required.

Especially since Whistler are not going to sit by and let Uniden steal their continuously growing market share.

Of the six paid upgrades, probably only five are of any real benefit to the majority of scanner users in Australia. Even so at an average price of $US30 per upgrade that adds another $US150 to the price. With an RRP of $US700 we in Australia are looking at over $AUS1000 for this scanner. It will have to be a damn good performer for that money.

We shall see...

The press release is a little confusing as it lists each DMR platform separately with the sub note of paid upgrade.

If it is the case that it is only three then I still maintain that it is a retrograde step of having paid upgrades, especially when Whistler supply the scanner (and yes I know the Uniden trunks and the Whistler doesn't) with the capabilities as standard.

I also stand by my previous comment; "Especially since Whistler are not going to sit by and let Uniden steal their continuously growing market share."

Once again I say, we shall see...
