Search speed; 996 with remote head.

I'm running the UBCD996T with the RH96 remote head in the car. The scanner is under the seat and the head is in the dash. When doing a frequency range search, I've noticed the search step speed on the remote head is very slow, about 1 step a second. But looking at the scanner, it is searching at a much faster (normal) rate.
I put it down to the head display circuitry not quick enough to "catch up" with the scanner display via the serial data in the cable. But then a friend with exactly the same setup tells me his search speed on the remote head and the scanner are both fast!
Anyone else experiencing this or is my remote head just retarded?
