Guys
I am thinking about buying the ubcd 436 , updating from the 396 xt ?
I have a couple questions ?
1/ do I wait uniden Australia to bring out a australlan version ?
2/ can it be programmed using freescan ?
3/ Anybody who has brought a U.S. version are you happy with it ?
Regards

Hard to say, either way you maybe waiting a while.

No.

Yes and no.
At this stage there is no logical reason to retire a perfectly good 396XT in favour of the BCD436HP. In fact the argument is very much towards keeping the 396XT for as long as possible. The 436HP is beset with a number of problems. Some of which are unique to American conditions admittedly. Point for point the only thing the 436 has over the 396 that would prompt anyone to buy it is Phase II P25. And as that is not being used in NSW and has little application Australia wide (mainly because where it is used it is encrypted) you an see the point.
