BCD536HP Mobile, Wifi, and More

TheBCD536HP is Uniden's new flagship mobile scanner...which incorporates two firsts. Like the BCD436HP, it is the first standard mobile scanner to include the ease of use of the HomePatrol-style database; simply enter your zip code and away you go. But, the BCD536HP adds to that WiFi connectivity, allowing you to listen to and control your scanner using your smartphone or tablet...from anywhere in your home, vehicle, or around the world.

4 Gigabyte microSD card holds the entire USA and Canada database of radio systems, plus leaves room for hundreds of hours of audio recording.
Programmable Alert LED lets you set a specific color to alert you when a channel becomes active.
TrunkTracker V with support for APCO Project 25 Phase I and Phase II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, and LTR Trunked Radio Systems
Quick Key access to 100 Favorites Lists, 100 Systems per Favorites List, and 100 Departments per System.
Discovery Modes help you find new channels on trunked systems and frequency ranges.
Analysis Modes include Band Scope, RF Power Plot, Trunked System Analysis, and EDACS/LTR LCN Finder.
Flexible Easy Channel Selection using Zip Code or GPS and Service Types — just pick the kinds of channels you want to hear and tell the BCD536HP where you are and let it do the rest.

Easy Scan Control using the dedicated System, Department and Channel Hold buttons.
Complete Front-Panel Programmability — create custom Favorites Lists either using systems from the main database as a starting point or program your systems from scratch.

Temporary Avoid lets you quickly silence unwanted systems, departments, or channels while allowing you to restore them by cycling power.
Backlight-on-Squelch option allows the backlight to remain on during an entire transmission.
Date/Time indication on display with time stamping for recordings.
Trunked and Conventional Channel Priority with Priority Do-Not-Disturb
Close Call® RF Capture with Do-Not-Disturb automatically tunes the scanner to nearby transmissions without interrupting reception in progress.
NOAA Weather Alert with SAME
Two-Tone Paging with up to 32 tone slots
Flexible Scanning — scan from any combination of the main database and Favorites Lists
Included Sentinel Software makes database and firmware updates simple. Also allows you to create, edit, and manage your Favorites Lists.
USB PC Connectivity
Serial GPS input for location-based scanning useing the Uniden GC-GPSK or other compatible GPS receiver.
64 x 288-Pixel Dot-Matrix Display
Backlit Display and Keypad

Nice very nice, Like the Wifi part could be very useful. Would be good to see a RRP on both of these.
Cheers

Hopefully they don't get greedy, we all know in Sydney alone the only P25 really to listen to is the GRN, which most digital scanners do well now, the RFS and FRNSW in other areas of the state. Phase 2 doesn't apply here at the moment, it may in the future. Alot of commercial customers are moving over to MotoTRBO and some to NEXEDGE NXDN. If the price of these radios are high, will people fork out for it?

Thread title: Shouldn't it be BCD536HP?

Either way some nice features but very lacking at this point in time in the ability to handle newer protocols, especially those that are open source.

Edit: fixed.

What no Bluetooth? (hehe) Everything's better with Bluetooth!

Looks like a nice unit, I'm glad to see Uniden have finally woken up and realised that it's the 21st century and nobody has serial ports any more!

The prices aren't up too much from the previous XT models, so that seems reasonable to me. Just wait till some idiot starts selling them at cost and you will probably see that come down by a hundred or so?

Yeah it's a little disappointing that they haven't included support for TRBO at the least, and the other thing I'd really like to see is a crypto engine so the user could enter a known key and have the unit decrypt at least DES & AES, I don't think the export restrictions would apply to a receiver but now that I think about it, there probably wouldn't be enough demand?

Alas encryption decoding is not going to happen at least not for a while. The US Electronics Communications and Privacy Act or ECPA specifically makes it an offence to manufacture, sell or possess such a beast. And I know that you can get a two way and clone or duplicate or guess the key and enter, but like the man said, the law is an ass or in this case behind the times by 20 years or so.

I am in no way suggesting illegal means of obtaining keys or listening to what you're not supposed to, but there are a lot of legitimate users who would benefit from being able to listen to their work channel/talkgroup without having to carry an extra radio?

Andrew,

Understood what you were saying. It is just the Americans are not going to produce a scanner and the associated R&D costs that they can only sell to a few. As the ECPA prohibits it, they are not even looking at encryption.

These new scanners look alright, I will be thinking of getting the BCD536HP, the WiFi looks interesting. Would the WiFi be compatible with Aus routers?
I wonder if Uniden Australia would have a version for Aus, not holding my breath though.
