Programing Cable Problem

Post by Bigdog » Sat May 15, 2010 9:23 am

Hi there,

I went and bought another 996 this time with the scanner I got the USB cable insted of the 9 pin cable used to have and cant find,

Problem:

I downloaded a heap of Prolific drivers and installed them before the plugging cable in, and Windows XP does not reconagise the cable, have checked the baud rate between scanner and a few different programs (freescan Bctool and Butel) with no luck.

When go through add hardware it does find the cable and installs it as commications port (COM 1) but with code 10, even then when go to update drivers with the Prolific drivers still get the code 10 error.

Have even tried using the rear port with the cable from a 780 and gender change and still no good, and also bought a usb to serial adapter and still does not reconagise and yes it used to work with the standard 9 pin cable.

Any help, ideas, anything would be much appricated, or if anybody has a 9 pin cable for sale

Thanks in advance.

Ive had similar issues, went through about 20 drivers before finding the right one for my Pro96, but is that unit u purchased a second hand one? If so maybe the old owner might be able to supply drivers for it?

just a thought, have you thought of changing com ports away from 1 to say 4 and above? com 1 is traditionally a serial port.
might be worth a look

Thats what I was going to say. Go into the device manager and go to the properties and change the com port number from one to say 5 or 6, as long as they are not in use.
