Re: SCA NPWS
I don't know that its worthy of its own section but it sure is a good organisation to monitor.
I know when I get time during the summer I listen to the fire towers as they are quite often the first to report any fires that come up.
In the far south (not sure of the rest of the state)the State Forests have the towers and if they suspect something might be lit say when there has been a storm go over then the National Parks quite often put a aircraft up, its can be quite interesting to hear.
The frequencies used for the far south coast are between 77MHz and 82MHz. These cover State Forests and National Parks.

Re: SCA NPWS
What kind of rage do these towers push out ?
Would you happen to hear them up on the central coast.
Didn't they have one at Ourimbah state forest ?

Re: SCA NPWS
Hi vk2fear
Thanks for the freq. I am too far away to hear it though but its in the same range as the ones down here so I would say its a state wide freq range. So if anyone wants to listen, scan between 78 and 82MHz and you should find it.
Down here the towers give updates every hour. Is it the same elsewhere? or does it depend on the area.

Re: SCA NPWS
I am not sure on the locations for near the central coast but if they are like the ones down on the far south coast then they are run by the State Forests and are on their network so if you can get the State Forests you can get the towers. For the far south coast I can hear the towers at Mumbulla north of Bega, Wolumla south of Bega and Timbillica near the Vic boarder. If I was further north I could probably hear the ones further up the coast around Narooma and Batemans Bay. The State Forests for this area is based at Eden and seems to cover the Bega Valley area. They occasionally call up on the RFS and talk to firecomm if there is a fire.astro_boy wrote:What kind of rage do these towers push out ?

Re: SCA NPWS
NPWS also have transmissions on 400mhz... 450.975 & 460.975 are two I hear from time to time from Mt Tomah. Both seem to be bridged with 70mhz channels. I actually found that one from crawling the ACMA site
Also they typically have a chopper in the air over Blue Mountains on a daily basis... chopper is based at Oberon. Typically sighting bushwalkers, smoke, etc.
