West Connex utilising RF Industries for radios & mobiles

Post by cartman » Sat Jul 15, 2017 7:07 pm

Mobile phone rebroadcast systems for the WestConnex project in Sydney will be taken care of by RF Industries.

The CPB John Holland Samsung JV, the project contractors, have partnered with RFI on the M4 tunnel project, which will handle a projected average of 132,400 cars a day by 2031.

RFI was awarded the contract to carry out the design, manufacture, integration and commissioning of the radio and mobile phone rebroadcast systems on the project.

“Our technology solution incorporates RFI’s Australian-manufactured rebroadcast solutions, and that means we are creating much-needed manufacturing and services jobs right here in Australia,” said Scott Magee, RFI CEO.

“Moreover, this selection allows RFI to showcase the only Australian-manufactured solutions for AM/FM and mobile radio rebroadcast, and provides the new M4 project the capability to support emerging digital technologies such as digital broadcast radio (DAB).”

WestConnex is Australia’s largest transport infrastructure project and is a key element of the NSW government’s integrated transport solution. The new M4 is the first tunnel section of WestConnex. Seven kilometres in length, the new M4 will join the new widened M4 at Homebush Bay Drive and includes a 5.5 km tunnel with three lanes in each direction from Homebush to Parramatta Road and the City West Link, Haberfield.

These frequencies have appeared on the ACMA under RFI's name in the last month or so

I was listening last Saturday (19/5/18) on a analog Uniden 246 from the Grand Parade at Brighton-Le-Sands killing some time before having to return to the International Terminal at Sydney Airport to pick somebody up. I heard both analog 114.8 (discussing motorway issues) and DMR on 507.7375, so it sounds like last weekend was the cutover time. Not sure how both co-exist rx/tx but i am assuming the selected CTCSS tone is oblivious to DMR

I was told that last week one of their analogue radios went missing and later they started to get abusive "pirate" transmissions. The bloke was unrelenting and gave them a hard time for many hours. I wonder if that prompted the switch to DMR?
