Re: Sydney Buses

Hi SW Sydney Scanner

The 480 and 490Mhz frequencies are already known - they are the old Sydney Bus radio network that we can hear at the moment
For reasons best known to Sydney Buses they have decided to register new frequencies in the 470Mhz band and it would seem that they have begun the process of moving across to them
Some of the buses sound like they are transmitting in digital on the input frequency but are being retransmitted in analogue on the output, similar to the police early on when they started to convert to p25.
Not all just some buses on the Sydney North channel

Thanks, will update the profile in my radio, try and gather some notes for you. Those 470 ones so far seem very quiet (audio).

There seems to be a dead carrier drop on 471.000 every 5 mins. It's like a LTR pulse.

494.3250 107.2 had chatter between Radio Room and Bonnyrigg to a driver on a route in Parramatta if that helps the list.

It is not a LTR pulse, the system is PMR and uses mulitple channels, the pulse switches the bus radio to the appropriate channel.

In other words a "Heart Beat Pulse"... agencies using Mobile Voting would use this... though every 5 minutes is pretty infrequent (a comment on how bad Sydney traffic is- clearly they don't think a bus can travel very far in 5 minutes!)

Cheers,

Richard

Cheers, Richard

It is only a two channel vote, so 5 minutes is probably good enough.

Hi Rusty,
The number of channels determines the pulse length, likelihood of moving to another site determines the frequency of the pulse. But you are right- with only 2 sites it only becomes an issue in the area between the two- probably heaps of overlapping coverage anyway.

Cheers

Noticed that the 485-486Mhz Bus transmissions are now using new tones (varies from frequency to frequency) instead of 107.2
