Maybe the answer is that The RBTU (Rail Bus and Tram Union) seems to have a lot of political clout with the Government over rail and buses
Given that frontline staff in both industries have been subject to mindless attacks by hoodlums, personal safety has become one of the big issues in government/union discussions
The current bus system seems to work, so whatever replaces it (be PMR or GRN) has to replicate current elements ..... presumably the replacement PMR system is a uniquely designed system for Sydney Buses rather than a "one size fits all" GRN approach
Maybe that is why they have dodged the grn so far

Grant

PS For those who doubt the clout of the RBTU they manage at government level to "kill off" the 750 extra police proposal that was going to be sourced off the abolition/transfer of Transit Security from the railways.

So has my employer which annoys me greatly but anyway

What I don't understand is NSWAS have got well i'd say a reasonably good Duress System integrated onto their Radios with GPS tracking... i'm sure that'd be cheaper to maintain than the infrastructure Sydney Buses have currently got

Whoops. Entry fixed.

I get the impression that Sydney Buses just utilises rental frequencies to fill in the patchy areas

Heard a distinct p25 or digital warble today (5/10/2011) on 486.2000 (tx gpt sydney cbd) on some of the drivers replies
Dispatcher sounded normal
Also heard what appeared to be a tech testing
