ID Tracker III

Post by soupbones » Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:48 am

Hi All.

I just found out, though I am a bit behind on this, that ID Tracker has been updated to version 3 now. And its not a bad piece of software if you are interested in discovering a new systems IDs. This is what this software is designed to do. It supports the following scanners:- PSR-500/600, PRO-106/197, BCT8, BCT15, BCT15X, BC250D, BC296D, BR330T, BC346XT, BCD396T, BCD396XT, BC780XLT, BC785D, BC796D, BC898T, BCD996T, BCD996XT (also, non-US versions of these scanners)
Its supports Most Motorola trunk systems, including P25 and also LTR and EDACS ( for any of you guys living on the island south of Mexico!)
It also has logging, time stamp recording of audio of system you set ( can record only unknown Tgs if you like) as well as features like scanner control, spectrum logging and even system file control.
Personally, I use this software for simply working out who is using what TG. while other may log tonnes of data, nothing works better for discovering who uses a TG then actually listening to it. Of course, you can't always be around to hear every TG every time it pops up on a trunk system, so with ID Tracker you can record and play back TG hits when they occur on a trunking system. Each individual transmission is recorded and timestamped, and can be sorted and played back in a list of all hits for that TG, you you can play back individual transmission hits even.
For anyone who wants to give this softare a go, download it free here:-

The older versions of the software are there as well, and if anything the page on the software doesn't even give you a decent run down on the software capabilities. But I have been using it for a number of years now, and for free software its not bad.
Cheers

p.s. I did not know if this is the correct place to post trhis, as we don't have a scanning software group on the forum.

Absolutely dead day here at work - so I've been toying with it on my home PC by remote desktop.

Doesn't seem to work on Windows 7 - only get "Initilization Failed!" - even when running as an administrator and with XP compatability.

Which is a shame because all my PCs run 64 bit versions of either Linux or Windows 7. Doh!

Strange, I've got Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and it works fine for me.

Hmm, maybe its my UBCD396T not being supported. I've tried all 3 versions now just to be sure.

Criten.

It may not be win84 bit compatible, not sure. I tried 64bit Win7 and has similar issues with other programs, so now I don't bother with 64bit. Not worth it if you ask me, as the speed difference was so minimal I didn't see the point.

Anyway I assume win7 has Microsoft NetFeramework 3.5 as standard. Can't say for the 64bit version. If not check if you have this in the 64bit win7 and install if you need to.

I am running it on an old PC with XP Pro and have not tried it on my Win7 machine yet. I have a USB cable for the 996 so I might give it a go, as my PC doesn't even have a serial port.

Just set ID Tracker II on my Win7 machine. Works fine, only had one slight issue which fixed itself. Went to enable the scanner control and it came up an error. Did it again and the window came up and allowed full control. Worked fine after that, even with a restart.

No admin control or xp emulation needed.

My laptop has sha* itself or Vista has to be more correct if I get home early this week will need go buy and upgrate to windows 7. Reading on the web if you have a 32bit vista you must match with win7 32bit

Well that depends on how you judge the speed difference. There is no fair benchmark in the computer industry. However...

64bit allows your processor to handle integers (numbers) and addressing up to 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 - with no dirty tricks. While 32bit only allows up to 4,294,967,295. That may not seem significant, but when you start talking about the hard memory limit of 3GB on a 32bit system - the speed difference can be significant because these days you do reach the point of not being able to upgrade your memory.

All in all, you will eventually go 64bit if you like it or not. One day we'll all migrate to 128bit as well!

Depends... I never use the migration/upgrade tool from Microsoft anyway. Format and install Vista 64, then use a 64bit upgrade?

Regarding my above post... I emailed KD5EIS/David who indicated it was a communications problem. I'm actually going to replace my mainboard in the next few days and suspecting a BIOS corruption fault, I won't be surprised if this makes a difference.
