This official live app was released two weeks ago by Transport for NSW no less

I was suprised at the level of detail that has been put out into the public domain especially the trains

Excellent site! Well done TFNSW!!!!

The next part is if they port in their IP linked radio system so the train nutters can listen in to each trains radio comms :)

Many thanks for the link Cartman. Wish I knew about it midday today, waiting for the Sydney train at Hamilton, running 30 minutes late.

Great idea but think operational security and safety would not allow this as a lot has changed in the world since the analog metro net was constructed.
I enjoyed the insight into how a modern railway operates analog gave me. Not to worry as there is the state wide channel and various simplex channels to feed my rail curiosity for the time being. I do recall purchasing a book that someone wrote on train scanning in Australia from dick smiths some time ago but cannot find it now. I have also noticed and enjoyed a lot of live streaming of railway ops from around the world but is predominantly USA like http://www.railroadradio.net/.
Long live the train and radio nutters.

Thanks for the link Cartman.

That was me. Haven't produced the book or CD for many years. The cost of printing was prohibitive so moved to CD. Then went back to work for the railways and conflict of interest kicked in. Shame given the amount of information I was privy to...

Metronet is reported to have been switched off for good on Feb 20, 2017, according to an operations blurb (distributed to all staff) that i was reading overnight
Its all GSM-R now for drivers, guards, signallers and train controllers
