274.5500 Richmond RAAF ATIS

Post by cartman » Thu Dec 27, 2012 8:24 am

Up until today I could never hear the Richmond RAAF ATIS on 274.5500 from Blacktown even though I am in a high position
For some reason they have either bumped up the power or I have moved my magnetic base aerial 2mm into the right position

Sourced at 2120hrs UTC 26/12/12

Female Voice:
"Richmond Terminal Information Zulu
Restricted Area R469 and R470 deactivated
CTAF 135.5
Wind Calm
QNH: 1018 Hectapascals
Temperature: 17
Cloud: Scattered 3800 feet
Visibility: 10km or greater
Rainfall last 10mins Nil
Richmond Terminal Information Zulu"

The area is subject to frequent fogs and the storms that affect the outer west often pass by, so it always interesting to monitor.
As a rule cloud base details (up to 3 layers with height in feet) tends to change every few minutes

Hi Grant,

As of a few months ago the Richmond ATIS is also being tx on VHF 126.3, makes it easier for civil A/C not fitted with a NDB receiver (the othe freq that the RIchmond ATIS is broadcast on 347khz ). Not sure if this is permanent becauses the details don't appear in the latests enroute guide for Richmond.

Regards Kev

Yeah you are right - hearing it on both 126.3000 and 274.5500Mhz.
I was aware of LW and Military UHF frequencies
In fact if you listened on the LW frequency many years ago you would often hear the PAPI precision approaches
