National Parks new radio network
NPWS are moving from a mid band to high band radio network and soon both agencies will require each other's channels to communicate on the fire ground.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is upgrading its radio network from VHF mid band (80MHz) to high band (160MHz) through its radio replacement project. The new system will be a high band analogue radio network.

To enable smooth transition, the existing NPWS radio network will continue to support operations on both networks over the coming fire season. Upon completion of transition, the NPWS old radio network will be decommissioned from 1 April 2014.

Changes to the NPWS radio network will also change the interoperability practices between NPWS and NSW RFS in joint operations. After 1 April 2014, both the agencies will require each other’s channels to interoperate with each other on fire ground.

To find out more about this project contact your local NSW RFS office.

Wonder if the VRA is aware of the upgrade. Would say a lot of the old gear could find new use

Yea I know Garry,

The VRA are a little tight lipped about it. There are a number of VRA Squads who are a little disgruntled about the Police P25 rollout and losing local contact and what looks like the VRA lack of intervention to address the loss and find a solution.
