As a newbie can some give me a idea with levels ?
I using a pc , pdw software and 3.5 cable mono , discriminator 1 selected im lost ?

Once again, are you using a discriminator tapped scanner?

If you're using the earphone or record-out jack on the scanner then do NOT tell the software to expect discriminator level audio.

Now adjust the line-in level in Windows, start low (around 2 out of 10) and watch the little level needle in the software, firstly confirm that it actually moves when a signal is received, if so then start adjusting the line-in level in very small increments to see what appears on the screen.

Generally speaking, if you're not getting any messages then increase the level, if you're getting gobbledygook then reduce the level. There is no universal setting, every setup is different and will require some tuning.

Using Audio out = Days of adjustmnts
Discriminator tap = setup in minutes

You choose, look into the link on your other post & if you are handy with a soldering iron crack open your scanner.

And of course if you're using the earphone socket, you essentially start those adjustments all over again from scratch every time you move the volume knob on the scanner (like turning it off).

Astro _boy does it affect the operation of the scanner after you have installed discriminator tap ??

No, there is no effect.
its just like having a second headphone output, but this output will work with data decoding.

I got a discriminator tap installed thanks to rustyrail , im getting needle movement and im making adjustments the mic/line in and i have the mic boost on full 20db , should i have the mic boost off ?

Mic Boost OFF. It generally distorts the signal.
