Are you using discriminator audio or headphone audio?

You might need to play with audio levels and/or turn off mic gain on your soundcard to get a good decode

Just a quick note in case anyone is confused... I've just moved all of these posts concerning PDW out of Grant's Windows 10 thread (here) in an effort to keep all the info together.

Apologies for any disorientation you may have experienced.

Back on the subject of PDW, I had no luck whatsoever getting PDW to decode POCSAG on headphone or speaker audio.

It really needs discriminator audio but not necessarily via a data slicer, my setup is (was) actually running from the packet outputs on an Icom R2500 straight into a USB soundcard and once I played around with the levels this setup was very reliable.

I believe Wonky was asking about the scanner not the software settings... but not knowing the difference tells me you're most likely plugged into the earphone jack on the scanner?

Your scanner may need to be modified to have a discriminator audio jack added, you should easily find directions to do the mod on Google (if you're electronically minded) or there may be someone here that can do the work for you, for a fee of course. Some members here often sell their already-modified gear too so check out the for sale section or post a wanted ad.

In my experience you will never get a clean POCSAG decode using speaker/earphone level audio, other have reported some success but generally speaking the tap is the way to go.

Have a read through some of the other pager decoding threads here, notably this one, for tips and tricks.

As Longreach suggests, one good way to test your setup is to try and decode ACARS on 131.55MHz, that should give you some results using earphone audio to start with?
