The control channels (currently) transmit using phase 1 which is why the trusty 396 will still work. The voice channels may well change in the future to phase 2.

DSD+ is your best bet for true trunk tracking monitoring of the Metwide system, another user and myself have spent many hours trying to get the Unidens to trunk it properly and they will not do it for some unknown reason.
