NSW P25 GRN - ACT Talkgroups

Post by Walt Bishop » Tue Apr 30, 2019 5:47 pm

Hi all, here's a fairly accurate list of ACT talk groups I've compiled over the last 10 years or so. Until recently, I've been a bit absent from monitoring in that time so some things may have changed. But there are some TGs here I've either seen identified incorrectly, or not at all; enjoy.

Please feel free to drop me updates and new info, and I'll update this post.

ENCRYPTED TALK GROUPS ARE IDENTIFIED IN RED - YOU CANNOT LISTEN TO THEM.

Thanks guys, it's been good finding renewed interest.

Next little project might have to be to confirm some more info from the Light Rail DMR III system!

Thanks Grant, Matt.

I've updated this, and added a few new TGIDs and RIDs. More to come soon, hopefully.

That's just the way the world is going. Encryption that was optional in radios a few years ago is now included as standard, so as radio fleets get replaced it's fast becoming the norm to load up Ø keys and go dark.

A lot of the blame can be placed on Radio Reference and their online streams, mostly in the US but also over here, they gave the ability for anyone with a smartphone to keep track of cops, chase ambulances, etc., whereas prior to that scanning was mainly done by (mostly) harmless hobbyists.

Check the first post in this thread (updated), road maintenance TG isn't secure.

As for buses, not only do Transport Canberra (ACTION) provide regular public transit and school services in the ACT, but SNT (Special Needs Transport) services for vulnerable people (including children) to and from their home residences. That and with such widespread presence, they're sometimes called upon by AFP to have drivers be on the lookout for missing persons, criminal suspects etc. Whilst it may seem like buses would have mundane day to day traffic (they do), this occasional sensitive traffic isn't appropriate for broadcast/streaming, nor public dissemination. Reason enough for secure comms if you ask me.

This x1000. For the discreet hobbyist scanner generally causes no problems. It's when every John Citizen has access to the aforementioned via an app on their phone, in real time, or the archives of hundreds of hours of recorded audio; it's a creepers delight. RR is making a quick buck, and ultimately at the demise of the hobby. I have no issues with the small time hobbyist running a scanning website at their own expense, for the benefit of a (usually small) niche interest group.

We've a bit of a problem with social media "journalists" in the ACT at the moment; one is particularly bad. Even with AFP/ACTAS/ACTFR having secure comms, this whacker consistently turns up at a variety of public safety incidents and points a camera and mic at everything and everyone, with little regard for those involved. He's even posted incident videos with scanner audio in the background from clear services like NSWFR/ ACTRFS etc. Way to keep a low profile... He gives hams a bad name too unfortunately.

But I digress. Encryption is becoming the norm; we must enjoy what we can whilst we can. The days of casual public safety scanning/monitoring for personal recreation are numbered. [/rant]

My sentiments exactly! Streaming is the death of scanning. Scanning is no longer the domain of those who would take the time and trouble to buy a scanner, program and learn about it etc. Basically any Tom, Dick or Harry can be monitoring a host of traffic without the desire to be involved.

As to RR don't get me started on the evils of that site. It is a business by any other name and wants to rule the world as the 'premier' scanning site. Something it is not. Why any Australian scanner enthusiast would contribute even the time of day to RR is far beyond comprehension.

Streaming together with the willingness of many Australians to support RR are two of the principal reasons I will no longer contribute frequency information etc to any forum even this one. Too many people seem to float on some sort of ego trip by contributing information posted on Australian forums to RR, usually passing it off as their own.

The end of my rant.
