Fair enough ivahri. I just wasn't aware radio spectrum was recycled in such a fashion - but I am a radio noob.

Anyone have information on how the 800mhz band fits in with this profile? Heres a list of some used in the Blue Mountains...

criten, if you hearing RFS on the freqs., they are not directly related to the PMR profile listed. However, they are used as links between different sites. They are generally of low power and very directional.

To see where they are used, this site will be your friend:

That is a neat trick- these are their link frequencies! Unless you are in a good location you aren't going to hear these as they normally use directional antennas and 1 Watt output.

Cheers,

I can pickup about half those site link freqs from upstairs... this is why I need to get a discone on the roof.

Doesn't seem all that directional. Theres only one link that'd put me in a direct path but I'm picking up other links based on the ACMA info. I'll try matching them with their PMR labels...

criten, you would most probably be in the path. they are quite directional. i know from going to wagga picking up the VKG links on 460mhz you have to be fairly close to the former VKG4 wagga radio centre to pick them up. they are still up but its a farily narrow window on how you can pick them up. at a particular premisis i was at on thursday i picked up 3 of about the 8 links that go out of there, one was to gundagai. not sure on the other 2 but i was to the east of the city centre(i was about a kilometre and a half from VKG 4).
cheers

these links are often point to multipoint with a central site utlilising an omni-directional antenna so it may be possible to pick up the link path in a very broad area depending on the district you are listening to.
