RFS The Hills district going GRN

Post by citabria » Sat Jul 28, 2018 3:17 pm

Hi Guys,

Just received word that the Hills are finally moving to GRN (from their unlicensed VHF PMR system) for their primary communications as of the 1st August.

Cheers,

Far to assume they are continuing to use their allocated talkgroup, being TG 10036 (eG019 BKM HL).

They have been using this TG for many years, just not as their main dispatch channel. Glad to hear they will finally be using the GRN full time.

Unlicensed VHF PMR??? I'm curious as I've not heard of any RFS using VHF for dispatch for years.

The Hills RFS, until last week, had continued to use VHF channels for all dispatch. They have GRN and UHF channels available, but have not used them. The VHF channels they used had been unlicensed for some time.

Ok that's a surprise given they're one of the richest areas in the region though certainly not uncommon for government nor the first of seen or heard of.

It's odd though when Penrith and most/all of the others have been very progressive.

Yep, screams of the ‘dads army’ approach that is commonly attributed to volunteer emergency services. It’s a perfect example of a local area or brigade going against what is standard, for no legitimate reason, apart from “it’s how it’s always been done so we’re not changing”.
