Anyone know why Ambos are adding 1s to the beginning of their numbers as per below picture? I've noticed this a bit in the Liverpool area.

Yes, its for new statewide radio number reissuing. Its to stop confusion particularly when country cars come to Sydney. All cars right across the state will end up with 4 numbers and will take about 3-4 years to complete.
cheers

Apparently they have always had four numbers in their fleet records ... but up to now only the last three on the actual vehicle
I think the patient transport hub project (utilising Area Health transport vehicles as well as Ambulance Patient Transport) has put the focus on the numbering

Yep there has always been 4 numbers used internally. The problem being that for instance that their is at least two 213's in NSW, one in Newcastle and one in Goulburn. Northern and Southern NSW have the same numbering. So for instance if there was a major incident in Sydney and cars from Southern and cars from Northern were tasked it would cause confusion.
Expect to see other changes too.

With the police, fr, rfs and even ses rolling out P25 PMR, it is a bit surprising the ambos haven't started...is that a change coming also Longreach?

Did notice them on the GRN around Bega and further down to the Vic Boarder while down there on holidays just after new years

Southern shifted to the GRN about 2 years ago. They still use PMR in marginal GRN areas.

I'm guessing any new ambulance assignment will popup here on the ACMA database:
