For those who are curious to know how this is going... the first 25 sites are now operational.

Cheers

So are these all the sites and frequencies for the digital PMR system? http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/clien ... O=20008471

Will be Mike... bases have been assigned and licensed to permit radio profiles to be done to cover work proceeding in the next 12-18 months. These assignments cover southern and south-western NSW.

I have been hearing digital activity for about the last month or so here in the Far Far South Western NSW. Nothing on the old 419.125 since then.

^ No shit sherlock  Sometimes, as I am in Victoria, the cutover from straight out simplex VHF Police channels to a voting system the 2 ran in parallel for a while as a back up. Thought that may have happened in this case too.....Obviously not.

That is OK if you have the infrastructure to support both... out west there wasn't & I think the rest of the networks will be upgraded the same way- FRNSW have the ability to keep parts of the old network live while updating sites but it is tricky. Plods can do things differently because they often own the radio sites...

I think the VKC VHF network very early on in the piece were owned by Vicpol as you suggest. I think when the change over to the voting sites started, the maintenance/ownership was transferred to Telstra as it was part of the SMR network. Now I think the new digital network being rolled out at a lot of the same sites are owned by the CFA. Not 100% sure on this tho.
It's good to hear the NSWFR digital channels from my location. Maybe you can tell me, are the comms that I hear, which includes my local Wentworth station 494 coming from Sydney, Newcastle or Woolongong? I remember in the analogue days I would sometimes get a mixture of all of them. Cheers.

Wollongong is no more... PMR networks are normally run via Newcastle but at any time can be run from Sydney if needed. They regularly test them via both centres.
