Re: Channel Alpha operator in clear.
I listen to 468.850 analogue around Penrith & up the mountains, which lately I have been getting strong heterodyne in some areas (two TX on same freq) which leads me to believe they are using both the Kurrajong site & the Penrith Police station site.Longreach wrote: not too bad in the country, little inaccurate sometimes but works well for me, the city is the main prob for me in relation to ch x, am always trying to work out the tx locations, have a rough idea anyway? dont really care on the city police stuff anymore,
cheers
On a recent trip to Canberra I was able to listen to country police on 468.850 down to about Mittagong then when I lost that I started scanning & picked them up again by changing to 468.025/468.125/468.300/469.400 (not necessarily in that order but ) then when I hit lake George I picked up Queenbyanne on 469.225.

As of 1209 VKG is still broadcasting in the clear. Cars remain ENC.

I seem to think the same.cokebottle wrote:I listen to 468.850 analogue around Penrith & up the mountains, which lately I have been getting strong heterodyne in some areas (two TX on same freq) which leads me to believe they are using both the Kurrajong site & the Penrith Police station site.
However VHF 14 from Springwood is bridged to 468.85 and offers much better range (at least in the Penrith/mountains area)

Is that VHF 14, 78.4375 mhz? I have never seen anything on ACMA about a VHF channel at Springwood.criten wrote: However VHF 14 from Springwood is bridged to 468.85 and offers much better range (at least in the Penrith/mountains area)

Re: Channel Alpha operator in clear.
My understanding from a Penrith-based VKG operator was that Juliet (which covers the mountains) was encrypted.
Zulu which covers Mt Victoria/Lithgow westwards is in the clear on VHF and UHF.

Yep, J is gone the same as Sydney to p25, don't know about encryption because I don't have a digital scannercartman wrote:My understanding from a Penrith-based VKG operator was that Juliet (which covers the mountains) was encrypted.

No 78.4375 Mhz listed at Springwood on the ACMA
Just checked

PS At long last Alpha 468.4000 now appears on the ACMA at the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon - which would help to wipe out the bad digital reception shadows they had previously at Darling Harbour and the Rocks. For a couple of years the entry was non-existent even though the frequency was still used
