New UHF Coffs Harbour Site Active

Post by crafty » Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi everyone
A new UHF police site at Boambee State Forest (468.4500) became active this week (appeared in ACMA in May). The site has great coverage to the south of Coffs Harbour and Sawtell. Also anyone travelling up/down the Pacific Highway, great coverage from Coffs south to halfway between Urunga and Nambucca Heads (using a Diamond SRH519 handheld antenna on a 396).

cheers Allison

This site would known as Friday Creek Tower.

Should be in the Middle of this map

Is the transmitter (468.200Mhz) on Beacon Hill still active?

468.2 is still active. This site provides good coverage over the town area of Coffs.

Cheers Allison

I am in the Woodburn area.
I get the MidCoast stuff on several channels.
78.300 is excellent.
Any idea where it is?

Hi Brian,

If you are hearing Midcoast this would mean the transmitter should be south of Port Macquarie?

I had a quick listen at Gosford (we're about equal distance from Port Macquarie)and didn't hear anything. I'll have a listen over the weekend using a better antenna.

I had a look through the ACMA records, none of the 78.300MHz sites listed appeared to be on the Mid North Coast.

No.
Woodburn is to the North.
South of Ballina....about 30Klms, or so.
Actually, I am just inside the North Coast radio coverage area. Near the Southern boundary.

Is the area Port Macquarie to Yamba referred to as Midcoast?

I was thinking it was the area South of Port Macquarie.

AFAIK, it is, roughly, Taree to Coff's H.
Lived in Kempsey for a couple of years....that's, pretty much, the way the locals spoke.
Official name might differ.
Mid North Coast, actually.

On 78.300, I hear traffic from PMQ to Grafton. Not sure about Taree.

Taree is the northern end of Manning-Great Lakes.

A few ks north it changes to Mid North Coast.
Mid North goes to just north of Nambucca Heads.

From there north is Coffs/Clarence which goes up past Yamba.

Is "Coff's/Clarence" an official geographical name...or a VKG division?
