Also found their award on the internet .... although these are 2015 pay rates, it is not a well paid job for the amount of responsibility

Easy to see why FRNSW would like to see Civi Operators in FRNSW Comm's Centres, Senior 1st Year Police Radio Operator at $69,696 compared to a QF Firefighter sitting behind a Radio Concole at $82,914 + $189.65pw Comms Allowance . . . a big difference between $69,696 to a protentral $91,827.55 of a QF Firefighter.

Like any job it has its moments. There is the routine sometimes interrupted by the maniacal.

It can be extremely stressful, especially when numerous things are happening at once. The training is pretty full on but does not cover all contingencies. Obviously it cannot. I remember hearing the tape from the Granville rail disaster. The operator, who I knew, did a very good job of co-ordinating the events. He thought the original job was a phony but sent a car anyway. All hell then broke loose.

Having spent 13 years doing the job, I can say that I enjoyed it, but would not take it on as a job forever. 10 years max then look for something else. When I left in 2002, the place was changing and not for the better. That is my opinion, if you decide to take it on, then make up your own mind.

And agreed the money is crap given the responsibility you are charged with.
