Highway Patrol Cars
Hi all driving home from work and getting off at Camden valley way from the M5 i have noticed 1 paticular highway patrol car that parks in the same spot just before the off ramp. On top of the lights is mounted a cctv camera , black dome one. Is this something new they are trialling and what is it used for. This is the first car i have seen it on!
Thanks sw sydney scanner. Using UBCD396T
Re: Highway Patrol Cars
the vehicles are fitted with cameras that live stream back to TMC

Re: Highway Patrol Cars
Number plate recognition camera if it's mounted externally
Re: Highway Patrol Cars
The cameras discussed above are seperate to the ANPR cameras, which are mounted (somewhat discretely) around the lightbar. The big black dome cameras mounted to the top of the lightbar of a few cars are, as mentioned earlier, a camera link back to TMC for them to see remotely what is happening on major roads. They look like black dome CCTV cameras you would see in a shop. There was a demo of the cameras on a Facebook page a couple of months back.Radio_Australia wrote:Number plate recognition camera if it's mounted externally
Re: Highway Patrol Cars
Unmarked highway patrol car Ford XR8 travelling along Wyong road on long weekend with VHF & UHF whips removed, only boot mounts remaining.
Removed the whips to be more covert?

Re: Highway Patrol Cars
If its unmarked the uhf aerial is on the windscreen, and the Vhf aerial has probably been removed as it is only used when it is in the western region. So yes they probably removed it to be more inconspicuous..
