Old 78MHz rural

Post by fatbastard » Sat Apr 25, 2015 12:16 pm

G'day all

Just moved up to NSW (Nyngan area) for work from Mexico (aka Victoria). I'm pretty well versed with VicPol comms (worked for them for longer than I care to remember).

What's going on with the 78MHz rural NSW frequencies? Still in use? Planned to be phased out in the near future for digital?
I had a bit of a look on the forum, and saw some talk of some new vote groups being used, but not too much more than that.

Anyone got current 78MHz frequency listings they might be willing to share?

I did a ACMA search on the Nyngan postcode

NSW Police
It appears there are three 77Mhz Police frequencies allocated in the immediate area (though you may hear others more distant)

77.5375 Tx Mullengudgery, Nynygan
77.5875 Tx Mullengudgery
77.6250 Tx Nyngan

The short term plan is to remain on 77Mhz
The medium term plan is switch to 468Mhz digital (clear mode)
The long term plan is to encrypt the 468MHz digital (as per 2015 NSW Police Handbook radio encryption policy p51-52)

467.8875 Tx Mullengudgery
469.1750 Tx Nyngan

Other Government Emergency Service Users - NSWGRN
NSW Firies, Ambos, RFS and SES are largely using the NSWGRN Site at Nyngan.
To date we are lacking certain information on the GRN site, so if you have a digital trunking scanner and/or are running Unitrunker you can help fill in some gaps

Peers/Adjacent Sites listed:

Essential Energy
Essential Energy have been allocated two UHF frequencies in the new Government Band

468.4625 Tx Nyngan Hospital

Tritton Resources
There is a large copper mine operating in the area (Tritton Resources) with 29 frequencies allocated in the high VHF and UHF Band.
However the parent company (Strait Resources) is 144 million debt and attempting to refinance their existing debt facilities ... they may not survive in the long term.
