That would had been "Wang" short for "Wangaratta"

Hy Guy's, from my years listening to the Albury Scanner scene (mid 80's to 2000's) and my Service with NSWFB Albury Retained Station for 7 years - 1989 to 1997, Cross Boarder Communications was and still is a little One Sided . . . with Vic having the upper advantage over NSW.

When I lived in Albury, NSW Ambulance and NSW SES were the only two NSW Emergency Services to have direct cross boarder communications with Radio Channels programmed into their Vehicle Radios from both sides of the boarder. ASNSW & Vic Country Ambulance Radio Networks were both in the 76MHz Band and Vic/NSW SES in the 162MHz Band, thus easy to program channels from each others networks.

Not the same case for Police & Fire Cross Boarder Radio Communications.

Today . . . Vic Country Police, Ambulance and CFA . . . by now should all be on Victoria's 163MHz Country Radio Network which is a Trunk Radio Network, meaning cross boarder communications would still be a little one sided still today as it was 25 years ago.

So the advantage our Victorian Brothers & Sisters had and still have today is, from about 1991 when NSW Police Upgraded their Murray/Riverina Radio Network from VHF to UHF, all Vic Police units along the boarder could call-up NSW Police Radio due to all Vic Country Vehicles being fitted with Vic Police UHF Radio's for use on the Melbourne UHF Police Radio Network, most Vic Police Boarder Vehicles had Local NSW UHF Vote Channels programmed in their radios, so from the day NSW Murray/Riverina Police Radio UHF Network went live, Vic cars could just call up Albury Police Radio on their UHF Metro Police Radios with their Normal VicPol Car Callsign.

Vic Police in Melbourne today don't have their UHF Police Radio Network in place, but are on the Melbourne Metropolitan Radio Network (MMR) like Ambulance & Fire, which most here would know is a Motorola UHF Trunk Radio System, making it easy for Vic Police & Vic Ambulances along the Vic/NSW Boarder to have direct Comm's with via NSW Emergency Service UHF Radio Channels being programmed into the same Radio's they use on their MMR Radios still.

Now, for many years Vic Police & Vic Ambulance in most major Victorian Regional Centers/Towns - like Wodonga & Wangaratta etc, usually had a local UHF Radio Repeater Patch System in use for Vic members using Portable Radio's in the field, which was usual a Repeater Channel from a very good advantage point, which NSW Police & NSW Ambulance Services could use to their advantage if they could get into that local repeater, as most if not all NSW Police Vehicles on the boarder did not have Vic Police Radio's fitted to NSWP Vehicles, unless they regularly backup Vic Crews into Victoria Policing districts, for most NSW Police Crews they would normally Request Albury Police Radio Room to make the call on their behalf.

As for the Fire Services, Vic and NSW have never been in the same Band. Vic Fire across most of Victoria has always been around the 163MHz Band, even today with the Vic Country Radio Network which Vic Police, Ambulance and CFA are all on, Local Comm's between VicFire and FRNSW is still Station to Station until either service arrives on the fire ground and is given a fire ground radio.

NSWRFS & CFA have common Cross Boarder VHF Fire Ground Channels
