VKG Closures.

Post by brianWE » Sat Nov 01, 2008 11:33 am

Heard a story yesterday to the effect that a couple more country radio-rooms are closing. True?

I'd say none will close and this is because

Police have cut radio dispatching resources back as much as they can go without sacrificing redundancy in their network.

I'm guessing the rumours are mentioning Penrith as one of the ones shutting down ?

It is all rumours at the moment. It seems someone in the PSA got carried away.
There has been some discussion about Wagga Wagga, but that is the only centre.

Well, closure of Wagga has been announced.....
So that half was true.
Other centres "are to be examined".
Not looking good for Tamworth.

So much for decentralization.

All centres other than VKG Sydney are to be closed in the next 3-5 years.
I don't think this has been made public yet but it's definitely true.

ok ... what happened to diversity / not having all eggs in one basket?

I guess time will tell

(sorry I'm a bit sceptical)

Doesn't seem to make much sense does it. I hope the bigwigs know something no one else does but I know that all important networks need redundancy.
