What are those high VHF frequencies for?

Generally speaking, the higher the frequency the more "line of sight" it is, so UHF and up doesn't tend to do too well in mountainous terrain. But why they didn't go with the 78 MHz range they already have I don't know?

I'm guessing they are just regular GD channels up in the Snowy Mountains, but I'm not close enough to monitor them. I dunno if they're just seasonal use (there's a couple of police stations up there that are only manned in the winter), or whether they're encrypted, or even if they're solely for police traffic?

They were simulcast with channel sierra years ago but disappeared around the time encryption appeared.
My guess is it was used for the VicPol units that came across the border as you used to hear Bendoc 200 etc a bit on sierra.

A new ACMA site appeared today but only low power at 5w (guessing it may be for training purposes?)...

468.6625 MHz - GOULBURN (Building D, Police College McDermott Avenue) - ACMA Site: 9011413

Low Power, either small area coverage or in building coverage.

They can't be part of a NSW & VIC POL high country liaison, as the frequencies are not the same as the VIC old analogue channels.

As Garry mentioned, maybe they are part of a SAR network.

The old freq's weren't part of the normal VicPol allocation ether.

The low power site at The Opera House disappeared from the ACMA listing this week, it was:

467.6500 & 467.8000 MHz - CIRCULAR QUAY (Opera House Bennelong Point) - ACMA Site: 3371

(It was actually licenced to the NSW Low Power Services client ID but I assume these were PF frequencies)

Ah yes, now I see. I only picked it up because the site disappeared from the NSWLPS listing, I didn't bother checking the rest of the site.

Looks like they were authorised yesterday (16/05/2019) so it was just a change of Client ID then.
