Mapping TETRA sites
Mapping TETRA sites
I was thinking it would be a interesting project to map all the TETRA sites across Australia. (Sorry Bigfella237)
Apart from the 800Mhz Motorola Zeon system in the capital cities, we have a few TETRA systems in Sydney, one underground with the NW Metro Rail and one above ground with the new City to Randwick tram network, plus Serco at Villawood. On the southern outskirts of Sydney there are a few TETRA mining systems plus numerous sites in the Hunter and Upper Hunter plus Southern Cross University at Lismore
Interstate there are huge TETRA networks in regional Queensland and Western Australia, plus the Submarine Corporation in South Australia and QENOS in Victoria that come to mind. Oh yeah there are several Casinos using TETRA
Just a thought bubble.
TETRA emissions tend to show up on ACMA as
18K0G7W
20K4D7W
21K0D1W
22K0D7W
22K0G7WD
25K0D1D
25K0F2D
25K0F7E
25K0D7W
However I have noticed that the police etc directional links also use 25K0D7W and the older enteries for Zeon tend to have the old analog voice emission

Re: Mapping TETRA sites
I agree, it is a great idea.
Unfortunately I won't be doing this myself, sorry. I am barely keeping up with what I'm maintaining now in relation to all the government systems, I just can't take on such a huge additional (and ongoing) project.
However I do encourage anyone else to give it a go, you just need to be signed-in with a goggle user name and you can start a new map here:

Re: Mapping TETRA sites
On the contrary, TETRA is pretty static. Due to spectrum shortages in the capital cities, there will be few if any more TETRA assignments in the 400 MHz band. Basically TETRA is a 25kHz signal living in a 12.5kHz world.Radio_Australia wrote:Great idea , Tetra is on the increase
While the regions may see some additional TETRA networks (QLD country rail network) the high density areas will not.

Re: Mapping TETRA sites
Not for nothing though... Don't forget that TETRA has 4 "slots" per base, compared to only 2 slots per P25 Phase 2 or DMR base, so you get twice the bang for your buck.

Well, at 6.25KHz per slot, it has exactly the same spectral efficiency as P25 P1/2 and DMR.
I’m not sure what TETRA repeaters and infrastructure costs exactly are, but given they need Class A linear amps and the associated trunking hardware, I’d wager a bet that it ends up costing more per slot than DMR, maybe even P25 as well.
