I was trawling the ACMA this week and noticed that the new Canberra Metro frequencies have been approved during April - utilising the DMR emission designator

City to Gungahlin - Stage One
Construction of stage one of the Light Rail Network began 2016, with work progressing on the 12 kilometre City to Gungahlin corridor, timetabled to be complete by 2018.

Fast Facts
12 km route
6 minute peak service
10-15 minute off peak
13 stops
14 light rail vehicles
24 minute journey time
Same level boarding at all stops
2 dedicated wheelchair spaces
Bikes on board
Capacity of more than 200 people
Operations to commence in early 2019

The ACT Government has also endorsed a City to Woden corridor as the preferred next stage in the development of the network.

This is an old topic, BUT, it is relevant today more so.
April 2019 is the deadline the Light Rail is supposed to take off.
As at 25 Jan 2019, they have been doing test runs between Canberra central (civic), to Gungahlin.

I'll check out those frequencies and see what is active, then post back here.

When I last checked a week ago, 418.1250 (Mitchell) was an active (TIII) DMR CC. It’s been active since at least Dec 18 when I first checked. However I’ve not heard any voice traffic on any frequencies which could just be a consequence my infrequent checks or poor timing. With the light rail trials now underway their may be voice traffic now.

Have just checked and 418.1125 (Gungahlin) is now an active (TIII) DMR CC. Same colour code as Mitchel - 5.

Forgive my ignorance but is this a private company running the new light rail network or something similar?

I'm just wondering why they've rolled-out a whole new network when the ACT buses are already well established on the GRN / TRN

Hi Andrew. As best I know, the light rail will be run by the ACT government. Why is it using DMR and not the GRN/ TRN; I don’t know!

Its being operated in a public-private partnership by a company Deutsche-Bahn.

Yep agreed it should be run on the TRN network (and encrypted just in case) but there'd be some reason why its not.
cheers

ACT Trams are conducting driver training, as well as checking the network, traffic lighting, track controls and track points.

This is occurring every night from 16 - 26 Feb 2019.

They are active on DMR via above frequencies.

Thanks Xplorer00. I’m probably a bit too far south to get reception but I will listen in, just in case.
