Do yourself a favour and buy a 996XT out of the States instead... Uniden Aust have given up on the Aussie scanning market, you can't even get a decent DSP upgrade for the 396T/996T Aussie versions!

If you do get one of the new models out of the US you will lose out on some of our 800MHz band but for me at least that's a decent trade-off for CC-Dump and firmware upgrades?

Call around all the DSE's near you if you want the 996 new and cheap. I got mine on 4 July 2010 for $350 from the DSE just up the road - yep, $350 new in the box AND he chucked in the extended warranty for free! Last one on hand and the owner just wanted to be rid of it. He said in total it was near $150 off cost price, when he factored in the warranty.

One other thing - when you call around ask them to look for the DSE model number, which is D1949.
