You can pickup a Wouxun dual band for $140-$199 on fleabay, I got mine for $140 & it came with spare batteries etc.

They are a fantastic little unit! I have had nothing but good audio reports for it from people & they are surprised when I tell them it is a chinese handheld!

Maybe someone can correct me but i thought its illegal to get amateur radio gear that can tx unless you have your license...
If you want to listen to amateur radio, program the freq's into your scanner

Lets say you go to the local shop and buy a big kitchen knife If the store owner doesn't ask you if your going to kill someone with it, does that mean its fine and legal to walk out of the shop and stab someone?

lol righto mate. I wanted a good raDIO FOR WHEN I SIT MY EXAM SO I GOT ONE... damn caps lock sorry.

From what i have heard it is not illegal to sell the radio to an unlicensed, it only becomes illegal to transmit on it.

Just like airband, not illegal to own one, you just need to hold a license to transmit on it.

not knowing air band regs, but i'd imagine they would operate under the same sort of restrictions as amateur gear at a minium as you can cause alot more havoc on airband than you can on amateur radio from my way of thinking.
