From what i have heard it is not illegal to sell the radio to an unlicensed, it only becomes illegal to transmit on it.

Just like airband, not illegal to own one, you just need to hold a license to transmit on it.
Actually it is (illegal to sell amateur radio gear to an unlicensed person ), it is also illegal to have in your possession unlicensed equipment if you do not carry a license. The rules are a bit more strict for ham gear.

The sad part is i'm not sure whether you simply didn't investigate properly to start with and just relied on what people told you, or whether you did and simply didn't care about the regulations...

either way not a good look, and for legitimate users it looks bad for them too

meh i got better things to worry about.

I dont even have the mic plugged in to mine, it is simply for listening and learning how to properly conduct myself when I complete my license.

Your frying the wrong fish on this one mate.,

That's more than most newbies do, before I did my exam for my licence I only had a handheld scanner & I then discovered EBay then I started buying equipment & only listened until I got my call sign through, it is good to listen as much as possible to pick up the correct operating procedures, of course I could have done this with a scanner, but when I see a bargain, I grab it! (booking myself into EBayers anonymous next week   )
