Re: FS: Brand new UBCD396XT full warranty
Hi Russell
Other than the pre-prog search bands, what else is different between the BCD & UBCD396XT? I ask because I already own a BCD396XT but would consider changing is significant advantage.
Cheers

The BCD in any model is for the domestic American market. The UBCD is for international sales, Australia, the UK etc with the scanner flashed to suit the individual country it is going to. Specifically, the search bands are different as you mentioned and part of the 800 MHz band is missing, therefore making it difficult to scan or trunk the 800 MHz band properly.
That is basically it.

Thanks Russell
Yes the old FCC mandated 800MHz cell phone block on US product. Been caught by that one a couple of times now.

I just read what I wrote earlier, the missing 800 MHz portion is in the US model only, the Australian model has the complete band. Just in case there was any confusion.OnAir wrote:Thanks Russell Yes the old FCC mandated 800MHz cell phone block on US product. Been caught by that one a couple of times now. Cheers jeff

Not sure if there was any truth behind it but I was told when I bought my first ever scanner that the "U" at the beginning of the model number stood for "Unblocked"?

Almost. The BC is BearCat which is how the scanners are marketed in the US. UBC is Uniden BearCat which is international marketing brand. Continuing, D is Digital, T is Trunking, XT is eXtra Trunking (additional features or bands).
