Hi Rusty,

A few of the boys at work have these & love them but...

People need to be aware that these are only for ham use within ham bands & ACMA have cracked down on these being programmed for both ham & emergency service/LMR use because they are not type approved for use here in Australia. This is important to know if you get an ACMA random audit...

For the price I wouldn't mind buying it for myself!

Cheers,

Richard

I hate to disappoint you Richard but the radio has gone to a new home in Victoria.

As far as ACMA is concerned, its like speeding, we all know we shouldn't do it but ... ya pays ya money and takes ya chances. I dare say ACMA could be kept very busy tracking all the 'illegal' radios around the country, but they seem more interested in what Alan Jones said about something or other than anything else.

yeah so true Rusty, they appear to spend more time making sure radio and television stations adhere to the guidelines than they do enforcing radio legislation, however i would imagine the people that enforce the radio stuff would not be the same as those who enforce the radio/tv guidelines...

tell that to the firies at Mount Vic FS who were paid a visit last Wednesday by an RI doing an audit... fair go, you guys really don't know what they do. if you dealt with them like I do you might have a different attitude.

Cheers,

Richard

I don't deal with them directly, but have dealings with them through my management when the computer systems don't work/conform to standards they have to abide by Richard...

I personally think they need to give the Radio Inspectors more resources than they already have.

If you don't deal with them directly how can you comment on what they do or don't do? I can tell you that they are more on the ball than you think, and my managers have sore backsides to prove it! Like any organisation they pick their targets & priorities because they can't be everywhere at once but if they have "intel" or reason to believe something naughty is going on they do act... and I saw it first hand this week & had to smile- because other cocky buggers didn't think they would get caught- and did! Nothing like telling your boss "I told you so"!

Cheers,

Richard
