MSS Security - Garden Island (HMAS Kuttabul)

I posted a few months ago that MSS Security at Garden Island (Main Gatehouse) were using Motorola MTP850's. I was in there today and looks like in the last week or 2, they have new radios. Benelec branded portables, with a thick/solid aerial on the right hand side of them. Similar to a Mode 2 motorola, with limited buttons, and a 3 line LCD screen. (only observations, without having one in my hand) - Most of the radios had tape across the LCD screen so you cant see it. I just had a look on the Benelec website and cannot seem to find a match or similar looking. They defiantly didn't look like the EF Johnson radios on that website either. Nothing on close call, but there was plenty of chatter when I was in the security office. Will have to keep an eye on it.

Vertex Standard maybe? Benelec used to flog them in Australia with Benelec branding, don't know if they still do.

Quite possible, ill have to check it out again tomorrow morning, it def. had the Benelec sticker on it, and they were all wearing them clipped to their chest, before i only ever seen a handful of people with the MTP850's, maybe its a cost cutting thing?

Was nearby that area today, and 156.2000 DOD 10w Simplex was getting a workout, not sure what it is, sounds like the stuff up on 860mhz xeon. Can be picked up as far away as Rose Bay, and some high points up around Paddington into Moore Park.
Forgacs and Orontide do welding/engineering and painting, they use old motorola portables.

NAVY there also use Model 2 XTS5000's running ADP encryption

Ive seen Model 2's at Randwick Barracks too, in the officers mess of all places, looks like its never been touched with all the dust on it.

I'll dig up the codeplug but they are in the 380mhz range

Ah ok, u know where to find me. You ever seen the setup on top of Fleet HQ building at Garden Island?

I heard some chatter on 495.1750 179.9 and pager tones on 450.3250 254.1. Not sure if it's accurite or interference being in the city.
